Popular Japanese video games publication, Famitsu has revealed the numbers last week of what their Japanese readers has voted in regards of the PS Vita and Wii U
PS Vita
- 87% of Japanese gamers have an interest in purchasing a PlayStation Vita
- 44.8% they intend to purchase it on the day of release.
- 54.9% thought the system was “inexpensive” at it’s price point of $249 USD for the Wi-Fi model.
- 58% said they choose the Wi-Fi version over the 3G one ($299 USD)
Wii U
- 38.3% of Famitsu readers polled said they had a good impression of the system after it was unveiled at E3, while 33.7% said they did not.
- 28% said they are undecided.
- 22.5% percent said it lacked impact, and many people commented that it seemed like a minor upgrade to the Wii.
While the numbers does not represent the whole Japanese gaming population, it does makes up of what people think over the Vita and Wii U. So, with that in mind, Sony will get a better sleep in night and Nintendo, they just need to work more on the marketing side of the Wii U.
Sony’s PS Vita is expected to be rule over the handhelds market in the holiday season this year according to various reports, while for Wii U, they are looking for a 2012 release of the home console.

Umm just out of Intrest what exactly were you expecting? It has hd 3d improved online a awesome controller its more powerful than than the other systems it can stream netflix it works with wii games (ohh and after alot of research it caan use more than one controller but nintendo is unsure if there going to sell a second controller) it has great 3rd party support tge usual nintendo innovation. And the controller unlocks countless gameplay features. And the controller has video chat a built in mic and the console will only cost around $250-$300 i for one am going to buy it. Maybey you were expecting to be wowed like you did when yoi saw the wii. But nintendos e3 presentation was bad and left people really confused but now that we have more information on it alot of people are beggining to realize what potential it has.

nah u wrong it surely wouldnt not cost 200-300 more 450$, thats what i heard from someone that works for nintendo. Also to buy more wii u controllers u have to pay 150$ and that is really expensive. The graphic of wii u wouldnt be better than ps3 or xbox 360 more around the same. Also ps3 has more games. Also i bet more people would support ps3 than people would do to nintendo..

Lol you have no idea how many people claimed there mom worked at nintendo or they “know” some who worked with nintendo. Lol they even said it wont be priced above this gen systems so lol i dont think it will be “$450″ lol thet said the ideal price would be $325 so around $250-$350. Ohh and i doubt a second controller would cost “$150″ i would say $50-$100 butnothing above that fanboy. Ohh the graphics will be better than the ps3 or xbox360 one of there tech denos was impposible to replicate on the xbox360 or ps3 so the graphics will be more than slightly better than the xbox360 and ps3 lol the console isnt out yet so you cant say it wil have less games than the ps3. Lol i think alot of people will support wii u after it comes out so they can see how different the games are on it. The wii u has alot more features than the ps3 it has 3d better graphics video chat, great onoine, and a unique controller that can be put in a game in almost endless different ways.

You just buy it because its nitendo and it will cost at least 400-500 and it can easy get to 600. With more power then a ps3 and a more then a tablet then a controller it has to be expencive. I think 400 cheap but sell in a loss, 500 ok, 600 is what is worth and it will be a fair price. 200-300 is just stupid, specially 200.

Lol how many tumes to i have to tell you fanboys when i said “$250-350″ i had evidence you were just guessing with a bias opion so let me repeat myself nintendo themselves have said that it wont cost more than last gen systens. So no none of the other systems have cost “$500″ or “$600″ the max it could cost is $400 but nintendo said the ideal price would be $325 so no if they said it wont be any of the stupid crazy large sums of money youve clamied like “$600″ lol they only reason you would even say that is because your a mirosofr or sony fanboy that wants to make nintendo sound unreasonable so why dont you go back to your fanboy fourms instead of sitting here sayung lies about nintendo?

I like how your calling him a fanboy when you yourself are acting like a fanboy. How about you just leave them be? Its their opinion and nintendo hasn’t officially announced the price. So you can’t be too sure. Yes the wii u will have better graphics but if you have not payed attention to the game cycles of the past xbox will release another console and sony will follow.

No it can only use one controler. And even with more power it does not has better grapics then the others. And i dont think the e3 presentation was bad but its a console in 2012 thats dont got better grapics then the older consoles. Its just not good enough. I know it got a nice controller, but i tried it at e3 and its heavy the touch is not multitouch, it does not feel good in your hands (wery important it feels like an bulky ipad) and the ps vita can propably do the same

Lol you know that zelda hd demo they had they couldnt replicate that on the ps3 or xbox 360 the wii u runs directx 10.1 so yay the graphics are better than the xbox360 or ps3.

Really does graphic really matter? look at the PS3 and xbox 360, PS3 is more powerful than the xbox 360 but all the multiplatform games that came out look almost identical. If a multiplatform game is being made, it will most likelu be made on the weaker console so that it can be ported easily to the stronger consoles. Imagine developing a game on a a stronger console and try porting it to a weaker console? a good example of that is Final fantasy 13. So yeah stronger console means nothing when it comes to multiplatform games.

Ohh yay also lol if you actually were at e3 which i doubt since you have to be a jpurnalist and 18 which judging by your comment you are neither you would know that there was actually one game that used two wii u controllers on the first day of e3 and they even said it is possible to use two controllers just there not sure if there going to sell them seperately. Lol and your description of it didnt match any of the accounts that other people used it at e3 have said they ALL said that is was suprisingly comfortable and light not “heavy” lol multitouch is actually inaccurate so its better to use single touch. Lol the ps vita has the connect to your tv feature as a secondary feature (the first feature is it beign a hand held) since its secondary most devolopers wont use it and you have to buy the ps3 and psvita wich will be wayyy more expensive then the wii u.

Lol i guess people arent impressed with 3d or hd anymore or maybey there not
Impresed with nintendos new online that has xbox360 or ps3 features. Perhaps there not impressed with a controller that has a touch screen that allows you to turn off your tv and you can still play a full hardcore game. Maybey your not impressed with the touch screen that gives you endless gaming possibilitys or perhaps you not “impressed with the video chat feature the controller has that allows you to chat with your friends while playing the game. Or maybey your not impressed with the tech demo that they couldnt replicate on any other console. Or maybey your not immpressed with all the devolopers who arent fanboys that realize tge potential of the wii u or maybey your not impressed with any of the features nintendo has put in there console who is waiting for the new xbox to give them better graphics and… Or maybey your waiting for the new ps3 that will give you better graphics and…. So i hope you enjoy your wait and while your waiting i will also be enjoying my wait playing my wii u and enjoying all the countless features it has.

you sound like a nintendo fanboy to me. ranting about how wii u will be
spectacular, when everyone knows its a pathetic pile of crap.
coming in 2012, 7 years in the game playing catchup to sony and xbox, oh wait they havn’t mentioned similar quality online functionality yet.
Nintendo is losing big time, just look at the 3ds, I admit sony made a mistakes but it did pay of at the end and they learnt from their mistake. nintendo is doing the same now and is playing catchup to microsoft and sony.

Lol No you sound like a sony or xbox360 fanboy lol you havent even used the console and your calling it a pile of crap i mean if you have to make a opion about it at least make it once you actually try it. And yes devolpers and nintendo have both said it will have a online similiar to xbox live they are ditching friend codes and the console will track what game your playing it will notify you if anyone wants to do a match with you by using the controller as a notifier. Please you sound like A fanboy that just wants nintendo to fail all the time arent you even excited to see alk these devolpers line up and say they want to make games for the wii u? Lol probably not because your a fanboy ohh and how is nintendo playing catchup the graphics are better than ps3 or xbox the controller is completely different last time i checked playing catch up is just making a console as powerful than the other consoles not becoming more powerful than the other systems ohh and why do you think the wii u is a “pike of crap” really i would “love” to hear why.

I’ve got news for you, buddy. Microsoft might not live up to that expectation of making the Wii U “look stupid.” And Sony THEMSELVES said that PS4 most likely won’t be a significant jump from PS3, and they’re not even looking for a PS4 for several years because they’re still wringing the PS3 for positive profits.
“It’s hard to say right now. I do not think we’ll have a console with a lot better graphics than the PS3 currently offered. I believe the future will be to offer consumers better and more accessible experience. The aim will be to make more people enter the world of video games and try to design titles for women.”
- SCEE vice president of Spain/Portugal James Armstrong
Meanwhile, EA has spent time with Wii U and has said that it can easily do anything the PS3 and 360 can do, and Ubisoft went on to say that the Wii U is significantly more powerful than PS3. Now, I’m not to brag about the Wii U, but I’m just saying that you do not have much of a case about the Wii U looking stupid. If anything, Wii U is sitting in good position to lead the next generation.
Why is that? Because since Sony themselves have said that they’re pushing for 10+ years out of PS3, and Xbox will most likely announce a new console to replace their aging Xbox 360, Sony is going to have to compete with the Wii U (which can handle anything it can do and then some), and Microsoft will have to come up with something capable of beating the Wii U without directly copying them. Problem is with that is that Microsoft are not innovators–they’re imitators, shamelessly. They’ll most likely just reproduce their own version of the Wii U controller rather than innovate something to compete with it (and you know I’m probably right).
One more thing to consider is that we will NOT see a significant jump in console graphics for quite a while. A PS4 or Xbox 720 might offer slightly better graphics than the Wii U at max power will, but you will not see any console that significantly outshines the Wii U any time soon. We’re headed for a graphics barrier in both PC and console gaming, where we’ll see only gradual changes here and there, but we won’t see significant “Avatar-like” graphics until 10 years from now, when the processing power necessary for hyperrealistic graphics by then are available commercially (and that’s just talking about PC gaming alone–never mind the late-comers in graphics that gaming consoles are).
Don’t expect a major jump from what you’re already seeing now, and don’t knock Wii U out of the race. They’re not only in the race, but are in good position to win it. You apparently HAVEN’T been keeping up with Wii U news lately. Nintendo is creating perhaps the strongest online service out there, they’re talking with Acer to create a cloud service for Wii U, and Wii U is significantly cheaper/easier/faster to develop for than PS3 while being significantly more powerful. Not to mention the cross-platform games like a Smash Bros. game between Wii U and 3DS in the works which will sell like hotcakes.
Personally, I’d love to Nintendo take the crown with a powerful console. A little humiliation would do proprietary-everything Sony and competition-buying Microsoft some good. Besides, I’m heavily pissed off at Microsoft releasing Windows 8 next year when I just bought Windows 7.

I think all of you fanboys trying to bash on each system in order to make them seem superior are all idiots. Sit back and realize that not only have none of you seen the future, but most of you have not even tried either of the systems, Wii U and PS vita, during E3. They’re both phenomenal systems but the sad fact is that the Wii U isn’t getting as much love plainly because of the fact that unlike the PSvita, its whole existence is shadowed behind Nintendo’s secrecy like many of its consoles before it, people simply do not know much about it, and the fact that they became as mainstream and casual as crApple, with the Wii, many have lost faith, and even diehard Ninti fans feel skeptical and can only hope for success. Nevertheless, coming from someone that tried the console itself during E3, this thing has so much potential that only excites me for the future. Next year will be the unveiling of their true next generation console, and I have a feeling that it will not be just slightly more powerful than the 360 and ps3, it will be a competitor to whatever sony and ms have in plans. Hardware is at a standpoint where only innovation can make for noticeable differentiation, like the graphics rendering algorithm that Eucledian is working on. All of you should stop speculating on who will win and just focus on what really matters, the future and the excitement it brings with all great things that will come. And honestly following this rule, the Wii U will be a success, not saying more, or less than any other system, but overall, with its unique assets, and unless the next sony and ms console bring their own ideas into play, which they most definitely will, Nintendo will make a horde of sales yet again like they did with the Wii, except this time both the hardcore and.. those damn casual gamers will be appealed to, instead of what made the Wii weak, and eventually sullied Nintendo’s name, the casual crowd by itself.

the numbers i see add up to a much different story than what you (and quite frankly every other gaming source reporting this topic) propose. it says to me that the Japanese, like the rest of the world left the announcements with a better idea of what the Vita is. if there are more questions on the Wii u’s side that are similar to the ones on the Vita side, please add a link.

… and this is why Japan is becoming less relevant every year in the global gaming community.
They barely ship any games over to the US, and the ones they do ship sell like crap. Japan is the only place that’s buying the Japanese games, at least for the PS3 and the 360.
You can’t look at what Japan does anymore as a yardstick for the rest of the world. They kind of got passed over.
