In Square Enix’s recent financial results, the company put more details on their upcoming game which includes Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Final Fantasy Type-0.
However, noticeably absent from the company’s release schedule is the long-awaited and much anticipated PlayStation 3 exclusive Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which is most likely they won’t launch the title in Japanese stores until after 31st March 2012. That’s from what i know, is the fiscal year ended report.
Back in July, Versus XIII director Tetsuya Nomura said heavy development on the PS3 game, which was announced about five years ago, was still limited to a “core” section of workers, though that group of employees was now prepping the project for full production.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII is a part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy series.

Yes Square, keep it up. Keep giving fans games they never asked for (ffxiii 2) and continue to hold off on the games that matter (versus xiii). Honestly I am sick of this company, the type who doesn’t give a rats toosh about the CONSUMER. SquareEnix, please just give the Final Fantasy franchise up, you know and I know it will never be the same again.

@angryconsumer The thing is, they won’t give up Final Fantasy because too many people buy it for the sake of it being a Final Fantasy, even though it’s nothing like it used to be. They’re completely milking the FF brand too get more money even though they give nothing they promised AKA Final Fantasy XIII…
I know they want too continue with the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythos, but how do they expect anyone to buy FFXIII-2 when it’s a sequel to a game nobody liked. The only reason FFXIII sold well was because it was hyped up and over-anticipated.

I like FFXIII, just disappointed i couldnt roam. it still had the basics for an FF though: it’s a fantastical mythalogical based story with great character development. the battle system was iffy… you can’t beat swords and magic

honestly guys im a final fantasy fan, the only final fantasy that let me down was xiii and i played vii viii ix x v and vi, but i can not wait for final fantasy type 0 and versus its been so long now

Five years?? God, I thought it’d been a long time since I started getting excited for Versus XIII. I wanted to play that game more than XIII, and then XIII turned out such a disappointment. Still, from what I’ve heard, XIII-2 will be a big improvement over XIII gameplay-wise, and the story of XIII was good (if slow to get engaging), so I’m not dissatisfied that they’re making a XIII-2. I just kinda wondered why XIII-2 came so quickly and Versus XIII is still taking so bloody long.
Yeah, you know what, I just want Versus XIII, dammit.

Hear hear, I’ve actually boycotted Square after the DS release of Chrono Trigger, a decade-old game at full price? No, that doesn’t fly with me. I’ll stick with companies that know what RPGs are about. Like GUST, Nippon Ichi, and Atlus.

FFXIII was a bad joke. It was not an RPG game and it was a very poorly developed and crafter level based not really action not really logic not really ANYTHING game.
With an entire PLANET you ignore (besides roaming it for side quests/mini games) because it has NOTHING to do with the goal your main character is aiming for FFXIII is an insult to FF games that have been up till now largly based on Gaia and the planet interacting in different ways with humanity/death.
The poor replacement for this being those evil/helpful things that turn people to crystal. A smattering of the idea of 12 mixed in with some good ol’crap story from 8. FFXIII is NOT A ROLE PLAYING GAME. Versus IS FFXIII this sequal to the aformentioned trash is rubbing salt in the open wound. I’m done with crystal “cycles” or “compilations” they’ve infected Kingdom Hearts with this bullshit idea and it’s led to numerous shitty games.

I am so tired of hearing people complain about XIII. Why? Because they tried something new? If you are “true” fans of the series you would know that Square spent so much of their dev time creating the engine (which is beautiful) that they scrapped many features from the game. They have said in interviews that since the engine and world is now there, that they can add this game play in because they have time (viola XIII-2). To put all of this into XIII would have taken years longer and judging by the reaction to this Versus news, you aren’t willing to wait that long. You have double standards.
To say XIII is “crap” shows how one sided and idiotic you are. No it’s not a FFVII remake, it is it’s own game. Some like it and some don’t (as with all the FF games) and that is what makes the FF series great. Square is always innovating with each iteration and you still complain.
