Just when you think that PS4 and Xbox 720 wouldn’t be needed for the next generation gaming, now Qualcomm among the mobile chip companies that is going to change the ever growing landscape with the Snapdragon S4.
If you’ve been watching closely to the Android gaming scene lately, then you’re well informed just how well stunning these games are elegantly running on Android tablets and phones alike. I’m sure most of us will be blown away with the crisp graphics and smooth gameplay one can pack in a pocket now.
Traditional home consoles for gaming such as the Xbox 360 have long been the norm, but according to Qualcomm that will change in the future. They’ve recently said in a recent presentation, dedicated gaming consoles are heading to the exit door. They added that the good old fashion console “will no longer be needed” because gaming is destined to be all mobile, and their Snapdragon platform is helping to make that a reality along the way.
Qualcomm’s newly released product is the powerful Snapdragon S3 which features dual-core Scorpion CPUs boasting at 1.5Ghz and an Andreno 220 GPU. When the time has arrived, the company has said that people can look forward to their Snapdragon S4 with dual-core Krait CPUs (28nm) and the faster Adreno 225 GPU, which according to Qualcomm will exceed the current generation console 3D gaming experiences.
With only a small number of games right now that are tune-up to delicately show off the maximum potential of multi-core CPUs and GPUs, in the next couple of quarters we can look forward to enjoying more as dual-core smartphones become the trend.
So, what do you think of replacing your very own Xbox 360 and PS3 just for the fact that a smartphone can be played over an HDTV too. Let us know what you think in the comments below.

These will never replace even a PS3, let alone next gen. PS3 does more than play games.

Storage aside, xbox 360 runs at 3.2 ghz. A moble running at even 3 ghz would die in 10 minutes. Look into the ps vita, that’s its main issue is battery life

Until mobile physicalizes the controls it won’t be the go-to gaming platform for the people who really spend money in this marketplace. Sure Angry Birds has done well, but does it really have the level of depth to carry 7 more sequels which isn’t that hard to come by in a core marketplace?

People who think mobile gaming will replace consoles are just plain oblivious. The technology is SKYROCKETING yes; and yes, mobiles phones here pretty soon will be practically as powerful as the current gen console. How the heck do you take that and come to the conclusion that consoles are dead? Simply means that its time for the xbox 720 and PS4, etc… that will destroy the power of a mobile phone. Period.
Seriously….are you ignorant enough to think that a mobile phone will out class a computer in tech/power? Its not to hard to understand…..every step that technology takes in a phone….will also create a step in consoles/computer hardware. One chip (like the chip above) becoming more powerful and smaller just means that they’ll be able to fit 10 of those chips inside the next consoles/computers. See what I’m saying??
Consoles are basically PC computers. A phone will NEVER EVER be able to be more powerful than a dedicated computer. Look at current PC hardware…..ya. Period. Argument done.

@Corey: This. Exactly. I don’t know why people go so crazy over mobiles atm. Oh, it’s almost as powerful as a computer I owned back in 2002. Sweet. And it’s not even the same architecture so nothing useful from a computer will run on it! AWESOME!
Think about this. Mobiles are limited by batteries, and have to design for power efficiency. Desktop computers and gaming consoles? Hell no! Let’s suck as much juice as we want and make this game AWESOME!
Really?

All of your arguments are invalid. Mobile gaming and Console gaming are entirely different markets. What happens in one has pretty much no effect in the other. Until Consoles become small enough to carry around in your pocket like a phone, or one specific phone becomes mainstream enough to use as a common console, the will always be different. Even then, they would have a lot of differences in what they are made to do, so whichever function you mainly want will lead to whichever you buy.
