Kazuharu Miura, SMBC Nikko Securities analyst has made the prediction that Sony would be losing 5000 yen ($60) for each PlayStation Vita device sold in the market, followed with a decrease to 2500 yen ($30) before the end of the fiscal year in 2013.
This is not the first time Sony will be making a loss on each of their system sold. In 2006, when the PlayStation 3 was unveiled, the Japanese corporation are reported to lose as high as $400 per console shipped. However, the company has now making a profit on each of their console after the price of their components on the PS3 has been decreased, citing a few reports in 2010.
The main obstacle that the Vita would have to deal with, is the development of the software for the handheld device. Hideki Yasuda an analyst from Ace Securities expressed his concern about this particular area, stating that the higher resolution of the system sparks problems for studio developers as it would consume development progress time. Yauda also added that it will be difficult for software companies to develop software for the system if they’re having the doubt the hardware itself will sell.
That might not be the case anymore, Kazuharu Miura has pointed out that he expect Sony to shift 2.5 million PSP Vita units before the end of the fiscal year in March next year. He also expects software sales of 7 million units.

first learn to write kid, also iphone compared to ps vita is nothing. Iphone is even right now one of the weakest phone in the top 200 phones is performance. To top ps vita power, smartphones would take many years before it can overtake. And the games in iphone suck without any controls button. Anyways i dont know anymore why explain to u, cuz u cant even write and i hate kiddos who think they have suprior handhels or phones, although they dont know nothing about performance and power of handhelds.

Noname TOIDI you are Absolutely correct, but I would love to Sony take a little more risk now and lower the game system to 200 for wifi only. I now many friends who would love to buy PS vita with a game. 249 is a good price but, you don’t buy a system with out a game. that will take you another 40 dollars, and it will be close to 300 dollars to buy it. So I wish Sony hear me because if they sold PS vita for 199.99 they would sell double amount of the game systems and games, and move system in the market more developers want to make game for it so you have nothing so loose for the future.

released with questionable revenue strategies when priced a $2.
Iphone 4 has a resolution of 640×960 versus PS Vita’s 960 × 544.

If they want PS Vita to be a competitive handheld device they need to sell them at competitive prices, OR they should make them capable of being a smart phone as well. If you own an Android or iPhone device you can play all the game you want without ever buying a portable game system. If they don’t start looking into convergence and multi-tasking these handheld units with cellular phone capabilities I see them obsolete in the next 3 to 5 years!!
There is a Sony Erikson phone that has PSP-like functionality, and that’s a good start, just make the game play better than anything else on a handheld with the cell phone functionality built-in and you’re gonna sell these things like hot cakes!!
