Why is the second word in this article “female”? Why is that relevant?

I’m going to guess there is a statistically significant difference in the number of male video game software engineers vs female video game software engineers. Most humans will recount events based on what’s different from the norm, it’s how we, as humans, categorize information to allow us to recall at a later time.

Not everyone is so concerned with being politically correct.

        duh,

wonderful sweeping generalisation about ‘being human’

Gdgjvh, has a good point and if you take pride in not being interested in being politically correct i pity those who know you.

Er, I think the first poster is right to ask why seen as the videogame business is sadly still dominated by men, and this sort of ‘reportage’ only confirms this. It can be read as ‘oh look, a woman is making violent games!’ – nothing to do with political correctness, more to do with negative gender stereotypes. The industry still needs to grow up.

You are looking at it from the perspective of a penis. If i was a woman who was passionate about game dev and wanted to go into the business but felt incredibly daunted by the overshadowing male presence in the field, it would encourage me to read a post made by a woman that works in one of the most influential game development studios in the world.

And i would be happy to read this.

It simply stands out as a beacon to the potential dev women among us who lack confidence based on sexual considerations.

There is always more than one way to look at it guys.

    Signed.
    The guy.

Um… Ever stop to think maybe the author is not used to writing articles, and added it as detail hoping to come up with a good title and story? It’s not sexist or immature to say “A female DICE engineer has teased in her Twitter account about the upcoming Battlefield 3 beta.”

    Seriously…
Way to derail the damn topic discussion before it even starts because of some meaningless political opinion that no one really cares about. As far as this beta goes, I’m too ready!
