Wii U no longer exciting, Apple’s iPad prove it

ipad wiiu 300x158 Wii U no longer exciting, Apples iPad prove itProbably as the time for Nintendo’s next gen HD console (Wii U) arrives, it may no longer fuel any kind of excitement especially if this Apple’s latest innovation has to go by.

And that is Airplay, touted as one of the most attractive selling features available in Apple’s range of iOS products. AirPlay offers the ability to stream video, music or photos from your iOS device to an Apple TV which then displays the content on an high definition television in 720p resolution and stereo sound.

That’s not all, this is where we would like to introduce AirPlay Mirroring. The feature was marketed to stream an exact mirror of the content displayed on an iPad 2 to an Apple TV which a lot of people find it very useful as a teaching or presentation tool. Or is it?

We all have heard about iPad as a gaming platform and it’s potential to break down those home consoles such as PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U possibly coming next in the line.

So, what do you think of that really happening as Apple slowly polishing its slick feature with the releases of iOS 5 beta updates?

Apple iOS 5 with AirPlay Mirroring is expected to hit the iPad, iPhone and other supported devices in Fall this year while Nintendo’s Wii U out in 2012.

yes, yes, yes and ohh hell yeah, sony is all excited about this announcement apple and wiiU will have the same abilities and ps4 will have ps vita as a controller, this will doomed microsoft xbox 360 and the next xbox with no portable devices but you know microsoft is full of surprises and my best guess is using windows phone 8 as a controller but with a flawed microsoft 360 emulator on windows 8, just wondering is 2012 the beginning of consoles merging the portable devices into one……………………..let me tell microsoft does not have a psp or 3ds type portable gaming unit………………………….

I think alot of these gamers are failing to understand that the horsepower of the ipad itself is no longer much of an issue when it comes to gaming… What you should’ve showed as well to them was the onlive gaming capabilities of the ipad. it clearly (to me anyway) is superior to a dinky 3DS or vita when paired with the following: http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=PQakbwbiH_o

“I think alot of these gamers are failing to understand that the horsepower of the ipad itself is no longer much of an issue when it comes to gaming”

john carmack said that the ipad is actually about half the power of the ps3 and xbox 360 and those are 5 and 6 year old harware and they cost half the price. also you genius if they ipad needs to utilize all its power to run a game how much will the battery life be? not much, they can keep upgrading the processor every year and upgrading the specs every year but no game will ever be close to taking full advantage of that power because of the batter life. and proof look at the games, that racing game looks like a need for speed on my ps2, actually ps2 games look better. and for the link you posted you were joking right? look at that dude he stoped and adjusted his controls like every 3 or 4 seconds, the controls literally suck.

and the psVita is dinky? haha oh wow now lets compare any game on an ipad 2 to uncharted on the vita which one looks better? which one plays better? gaming on an ipad is a huge joke, but apple try to make it seem hip and cool when my ps2 playes better games that it. much better. every true gamer knows that. and please stop with the crap that consoles are dying there not and never NEVER will. games like uncharted, halo, metal gear, gears of war, god of war ,mario, red dead redemption, gta and soooo much more are one consoles not a stupid ipad and those are real games, not angry birds. so ipad fans stop jumping up and down with every new gaming app that comes out and remember that its nothing compared to a console or dedicated gaming handhelds. god of war ghost of sparta was realesed on a 7 year old psp lets see an ipad game be half as good as it

    @ John
The horsepower of the Ipad 2 is indeed impressive, especially for it’s size, but Onlive can be done on netbooks that are even weaker than the Ipad 2. It’s not impressive at all. Technically, the Vita will be capable of running OnLive, if it weren’t against Sony’s interest.

While the Ipad 2 can certainly have plenty of IOS games and Onlive, it will never be able to provide a gaming experience that is on the level of a dedicated gaming device. Even the 3DS, while not as powerful as the Ipad 2, still provides tactile feedback in the form of physical buttons, thus increasing it’s gaming capabilities.

this is great and all but i still tink the wii u is going to have just as many sales as if this didnt exsist because they are still pretty different with the actual buttons. and the nintendo Games, whitch is why even tho nintendo systems are always less powerful and not as media friendly they still sel the most.

but but people who will have the chance to play this are going to be and should be really excited and i would be too but i dont have an ipad2 or apple tv sadly

ipad and Steam/Onlive “cloudplay” is fine, if you have a fast enough connection.

God only knows what a decent gaming session would cost on 3G, so that is not a serious option for most, but a large number of people do not have broadband of 5meg or over, which services like Onlive recommend as minimum. Here in the U.K. the average broadband speed is 3.5meg, despite what all the ISP’s keep telling us.

I’m all for the “cloud” it makes a lot of sense, even eventually for the console makers, but we have to be realistic. Right now, not enough people can take advantage of it.

    Hi Josh,

I’m sure you didn’t use this controversial headline to simply get people to your site.

Or neglect to mention the price of the Apple products compared to the likely price of the Wii U, which most analysts are predicting as half of $600 for the Apple set up you illustrate here, with more power, a better interface through the Wii U controller, as well as quality / length of games.

But I think its safe to say from the comments here and over at N4G that you have written an article with little research. Perhaps your next article can be less Apple gushing and Nintendo bashing, and a bit more substance.

    Chur.

Thanks. It wasn’t actually Josh, but me who wrote this.

Since, we don’t have any official confirmation from Nintendo themselves about the price, we can’t really made a comparison out of it.

This is really slick and all you need to make it happen is a $1000 Ipad 2. Yeah I think I will wait and get a $250ish WiiU and play Zelda and Mario. So while it’s cool that an Ipad 2 does this, since I am not rich I guess I will go the sane route and get a WiiU.

I laughed my ass off at the comments, this is what happens when Apple’s crap is given undue praise. Apple’s products will never be good for gaming, it’s all a joke.

The problem with nintendo is their playing catch-up with this generation of consoles…mobile platforms Ipads etc…are catching up to this generation of consoles…..nintendo’s new console the wii u will probably have the same horsepower that the next gen smart phones and ipads will have…so now not only will they be competing with sony and microsoft, but now they’re competing with samsung, apple, etc… meanwhile sony and microsoft are ready to announce their next gen consoles which will undoubtedly be several factors more powerful than anything around today. Nintendo seriously dropped the ball on this. They should have released the wii u either this year or last year…I fear this is going to become the next gamecube.

Yeah it has already been said what it needed to be said, but I wanna join the cause: It pisses me off the way apple thinks they can compete against the big N, Sony and MS when it comes to videogames, with these overvalued gadgets. These three companies have always spend huge money to make the gaming industry a dream, they make games, apple does NOT, they only rely on thirds. A $50 buck game from a true videogame console can’t compare to a $1 piece of s**t. So apple may be enough for the casual market, which is OK, but if you want a Serious game, “angry birds” is not enough for you. I love Nintendo cause of its games and affordable consoles, but its a LIE that Nintendo consoles have always been less powerful than the competitions, in fact only the wii and nds (current gen) have been the least powerful, the other ones such as snes, n64, GC, GBA, were always more powerful (yeah the GC was more powerful than the PS2 in terms of graphics). Dont get me wrong I’m not a fanboy just because I prefer nintendo, I also like the competitions’ consoles and some games, I’m on the gaming side!

BTW by looking at the videos I found that this so called Airplay Mirroring only actually mirrors (so the name) what you see on your ipad to the tv, the wii u does A LOT more than that, the “tablet controller” (not a tablet its a classic controller with a touch screen and other motion functions, it takes the idea of the NDS) works like a “window” to go beyond what you see on the tv, and by moving the controller around you can see things you dont on the tv, so it “expands” reality or something like that. Plus it will be more powerful, something that if you do with a portable device you will waste the battery life in seconds, thats why it needs to be a home console.

I totally agree. it seems Nintendo have shown there cards to early. By the time the console does release others will have milked the market for what they can. You think they will let Nintendo get a grip of the market like they did with the wii? no waaaaaaaaaaaaaay
