Crytek wants you to pay at least $2000 for Xbox 720, PS4

avatar climate change 300x200 Crytek wants you to pay at least $2000 for Xbox 720, PS4Previously, Crytek had talked about next generation consoles, and they pulling out an outrageous demand, asking a minimum of 8GB of RAM running on the machines to satisfy the graphical needs. Now, we learn another one.

In a PowerPoint presentation, that had revealed in details of their revolutionary game engine, the CryENGINE. For instance, they claimed that the engine would be bigger, better and faster where you are looking at something that could re-imagined Avatar’s graphic kind of quality.

Here’s the catch though, they said that it need “insane amount” of GPU by exclaiming four times of Nvidia GeForce GTX 590. For the record, each of them cost around $600 to $900 according to a quick Google price search.

So with that, and other material costs such as the processor, and other technological-licensed devices, you are definitely looking more than $2000 to make Crytek’s dream a reality.

Of course, by the time that either PS4 and Xbox 720 has been released, the price of these stuff will be dropped.

But then again, considering what they asked in a system, that’s still a reasonable price point to go for.

If the xbox 720 or the ps4 costs as much as second hand car, i’m sticking with the Wii U.

Expect the games to cost as much as a car payment as well.

    That’s non-sense… for example the PS4 doesn’t come out before 2013.
If you look at the price drop of computer hardware you’ll see in one or two years this graphics card costs onlyeven the half or less!
In addition, if Sony or Microsoft buys such hardware they order a HUGE ammount of these parts so they get the hardware for really low price I think.

Imho the release price will be tagged at $1000 (PS3 had a release price of $600 on premium package) and after a half year it’s even half the price again… It’s affordable but only after 2014 (IF the new console WILL be released 2013^^)

First of all, 8GB or DDR3, or DDR4 for next gen, is cheap. most likely $30 for OEM by next year. Right now DDR3 is ~$60 for OEM. Second, if/when the Xbox 720 launches in 2014 they will be on the ~16nm manu. process, meaning with the same amount of power(watts) and $$$ we will have at least 6x the performance of current gen cards. Plus, being a console with fixed hardware, they can program at very low level. A luxury you don’t have with PCs. Which is why they generally need more power for equal graphical fidelity. Basically, if it launches in 2014, we can expect that amount of power in a $5-600 package. And maybe 16GB or DDR4….

sorry but PS4 will be announced at E3 2012 and probably released 2013.

The entire year headstart, $200 better price tag on release, millions of RROD rebuys and a million more due to Xbox banned is what gave the xbox 360 it’s foothold.

I guarentee that the PS4 and the 720 will be $399 on release.

Sony has learned from their mistake, and 8GB is a huge step up from the 512mb both currently employ and like every one else said, by the time these are released 8GB will be cheap.

While their graphics expectations might be borderline ridiculous, the rest is not. Theoretically they could launch an 8gb/2gbVRAM/QuadCore console with 1tb of storage and blu-ray. I worked it out in depth a couple of months ago, don’t remember where I posted it though. I think it came out about roughly 280euros per unit including accessories, packing and shipping. This machine could then launch for 400.

Side note: I’m a developer, and i’m getting really hacked off with the amount of people saying there’s no need for new consoles. Why should I spend thousands to develop visual trickery in software when newer kit can do a lot of stuff on hardware? Not to mention the advantages in AI, textures, and everything else. There will never be a 1080p/60fps game on an existing console, either. Do people like buildings and things popping into view thanks to bad draw distance? Do they like stupid AI opponents? Lack of tesselation? Refelection? Where I work we’ve abandoned current gen consoles! Because we don’t have the money to play in the big leagues graphically on consoles. Hardware limitations have produced huge problems for indies trying to produce quality. Even with incredible free middleware it’s still a task.

none of you guys seem to know anything about how the video game industry operates.
When the xbox 360 was first released, weren’t the equivalent pc hardware specs similar in pricing to a $2000 pc at the time?
They sell their consoles at a loss, because they can make their money back by selling <$1 manufactured dvds for $100 each.

Who is “they”? And NO, equivalent PC hardware was not $2000 at the time, try <$900. Forget the fact that PC software developers have to overcome the PC's API. On a standardized platform, less hardware is needed to achieve the same results as the PC.

You Reynolds, just walked into a gunfight, with your asian-esque male appendage.

Every comment prior portrayed more truth than yours.

<1$?!? Are you high? There are these little things called development costs, ya know. You can't pay your programmers and the rest of your staff. with good intentions. The code doesn't write itself and even digital distribution has overhead costs and requires staff.

Also, Microsoft mainly sold their consoles at a loss to create a marketshare essentially out of nothing in a highly competitive market that has seen many companies fail or turn to only making games such as Sega.

There is no way in hell i am paying that much for a computer, let alone a game system. Heck, I won’t pay twice that for a computer. Consoles get better with age as programmers get better at coding for them, squeezing as much out of the hardware as they can. Wait a bit and they also get cheaper and have a lot more games. It doesn’t matter what they charge for the next gen game systems because I won’t buy one until they come down to the $250 range – and they always do.
