In an interview with Reuters, Hiroshi Kawano, Sony Japan boss has talked about their upcoming handheld, the PlayStation Vita.
A bunch of things actually, has been addressed by the president such as the sales target of the portable.
When asked about year-end sales targets for Japan, Kawano would only say that he expects the first 500,000 to sell out quickly. Sony is including a 100 hour pre-paid 3G usage fee with the first 500,000 3G units.
He then answered a question a lot of people would ask, the battle of Vita and 3DS.
Regarding the Nintendo handheld, Kawano said that internally Sony does not believe that 3DS and Vita will be competing directly. The two products are extremely different, he noted, with different looks and a cheaper price point.
In the meantime, he also does not regard smartphones as a competitor where he pointed out that games are just a bonus on top of the non-dedicated gaming device.
Also, he does not think that people planning to buy a game system will buy a smartphone.
