Publishers often use DRM to thwart pirates but it is often bothersome to paying customers. Bohemia Interactive does copy protection differently. Their games have long used a system called FADE.
FADE allows pirates to download and play the game, but after awhile into the game, it will start to cause problems to the game rendering it unplayable. From watery effects to affect your sight to your aiming becoming haywire and as the game goes on, these annoying glitches will increase.
Maybe EA and Ubisoft can implement something like this rather than their ineffective DRM system.
