Earlier in the week, Steam forums and databases were down due to an attack. Valve says it was possible that credit card information was stolen as the intruder(s) managed to breach the server that held credit card and user information.

In an email response, Gabe Newell of Valve has confirmed that the passwords in the database were hashed and salted and the credit card info, encrypted.Gabe Newell says the information was encrypted using AES256.

Gabe further added, “we’re going to be rolling out some free copies of DOTA 2 and Portal 2 soon”.

    Total made up Bullshit! If Valve were planning to give away free copies of Portal and dota, you’d provide a link to the source. But you can’t because YOU are the source of your own bullshit.
