Virginia Tech shooter influenced by GTA 5, Battlefield 3 and MW3?

Ross Truett Ashley 300x224 Virginia Tech shooter influenced by GTA 5, Battlefield 3 and MW3?Ross Truett Ashley, a 22-year-old part-time college student, shot to death a police officer and then committing suicide at Virginia Tech last week.

However, according to reports, the teenager was a friendly person who didn’t talk about weapons or guns.

“Ross wasn’t that kind of person. He was friendly, nice,” said Nic Robinson to AP. She is a 21-year-old history major preparing for law school at Radford University, where Ashley was a part-time student.

This has spark a speculation whether Ross was influenced by the recent burst of video games shooters such as Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. His style of the killing is similar to the upcoming Rockstar’s title Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5).

Authorities reported that Ashley killed police officer Deriek Crouse on the Virginia Tech campus while the officer made a traffic stop on Thursday, then killed himself not long after. The reason of the killing is still unknown

This is similar to a killing done in a future game that isn’t released yet? This guy was insane and killed someone because 2 games were released within a month of the tragedy?

You need to quit because you can’t do your job. Unless your job description is to write an opinion piece based on attempting to get people to visit your sad website.

Your quote of the girl that is a part time student and said he seemed nice was hilarious. This is like the special olympics of journalism.

Every time there is a violent killing by a teenager, someone blames the video games. How can video games possibly take the blame for murders? It’s the person that shot the officer, not the game and it’s absurd that the writer of this article says that the killing was in the style of a game (GTA V), which isn’t even released yet. This is making connections with certain things that aren’t there, and this writer did a real good job on it: in other words, go take an other job!

yeah because nobody was ever murdered before Video Games came about… Gahh! Why do they get the blame? I play all sorts of videos games, yet i don’t have an urge to kill anyone, there’s nothing in Video Games that hasn’t been seen in movies for decades.

This guy was a clearly disturbed, video games or not, he killed the police officer, because of that, not because of video games.

Seriously? Does anyone in the world realise that pretty much every teenager plays video games? This kids just mental. Games had nothing to do with. Every kid plays them. Even the M rated ones. Do any of the journalist in the world have children. If video games caused this than how come every teenager in the world does’nt go on a giant killing spree. This guy was likely payed off buy some anti-gaming lobbyist group. Just stupid.

Every time someone dies the headlines drift towards “games MAY have been involved in the killing” will people just cut it out and give it a break? it’s like saying because people watched a Wendy’s commercial people all ran out and slaughtered thousands of cows for no apparent reason at all. News isn’t what it used to be…
