D4 is much better. But do you really need an upgrade? Well, depends. For me, D3S more than enough.

I have owned the D3 ,D3s ,D3x and now D4 .
The between the D3s and D4 is only a slight difference as I still prefer the D3s color and noise ( more film like ) as D4 is more to Pure Digital Look (Sharper and more details ) in which I am a old skool nature photographer.
I believe both are superbly built dslr except the D3s has already proven the world their reliability and superb natural color .
It may take a while for the D4 to prove herself in color and reliability .
Since I have bought this D4 ,I would be using it more for my 2x TC with the 600mm and 400mm as it focus very fast without any hunting .
While my D3s would be on handheld with my 300mm and 200-400mm .
From here I would let you guys decide by yourself as everyone has its own preference .
