About 300 police, some of them can be seen in bullet-proof body armor, hijacked off an area surrounding an apartment in a Toulouse neighborhood in southwestern France, where the young Muslim man was holed up.
Shots were blasted in the early hours of the morning, and official said three officers had been slightly harmed.
Interior Minister Claude Gueant spoke to the Reuters that the gunman was a French citizen of Algerian origin who had been to Pakistan and Afghanistan.
