According to developers, Nintendo’s next console, the Wii U, may be lacking in grunt when compared to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 (PS3.). This is after Nintendo made an announcement that the Wii U would have twice the power as the 360 or PS3.
The reason for the downgrade in power is the tablet PC styled controller. The costs of production of this device are high, and Nintendo have been forced to remove parts in the console. The CPU, GPU and RAM have been changed to lesser models to save on costs.
This is going to impact the graphics on the system, with some developers saying the PS3/PSP Vita combination is actually more powerful and easier to program. These products, however, will set you back about $500, with the Wii U to be decidedly cheaper.
This is just a rumour though, and the system may be changed again before release.
