As long as there have been game consoles (not really all that long, actually) there have been debates about which console is the
‘best’. From features to price and everything in between there are opinions aplenty about which is the ‘best’. Of course opinions are like butt-holes; everybody has one.
The only way to really know is to compare consoles side by side, feature by feature, and so today we’re going to do that with the Play Station 3 and the XBOX 360 consoles. So off we go, and may the best console win!
First up- PRICE- This is an obvious choice, as the core XBOX 360 is $299.00 while the PS3 is $499.00 for the 20GB version. These are both the ‘core’ versions and so apples to apples. Winner- XBOX 360
Performance- While the PS3 may look more powerful on paper, the fact is that the XBOX 360 and its 3 CPUs put the SPUs on the PS3 to shame because they’re much easier to take advantage of. The only difference might be in the future if games are released that really take advantage of the SPUs. Winner- XBOX 360
On-Line customer support- This is a little hard to quantify but, if history holds, the support from Microsoft will be excellent as it has always been, leaving the guys over at PS3 HQ to once again play catch-up. Winner- XBOX 360
Game selection – A no-brainer. The XBOX 360 had a year’s head start, most multi-platform and all next-gen middleware developers have made it their primary platform, and developing for the XBOX is far faster. The demand is now much higher for the XBOX 360, which will keep them in the lead for the foreseeable future. Winner- XBOX 360
Graphics- The GPU of the XBOX 360 has a more powerful fill-rate and much more pixel and vertex processing clout. Most games on the PS3 have no choice but to run in non-HD resolution which obviously will result in poorer graphics. Winner- XBOX 360
So, in short, the XBOX 360 wins every category. Price, performance, customer support, game selection and graphics are all better than the PS3 and appear to be getting even better.
Unless you value your opinion over facts, the XBOX 360 appears to be the obvious choice.
