One of the most anticipated games of 2012 has finally launched and, to the fans delight, Diablo 3 is even better than its predecessors. Welcome to hell!
Before we talk about Diablo 3 I think a little history and praise needs to be heaped onto Diablo, the gaming sensation that started it all. Released on the very last day of 1996, Diablo received near universal acclaim when it first hit the market. What made it stand out was the vast variety of levels, magic items, quests and enemies.
Critics, even when slightly critical of the problems they faced with the inherent bugs that came with the first release, were wowed by the fact that every time a new game was started there were new enemies to face, new magic items that they hadn’t seen yet, and new quests to fulfill. In short, the game stayed interesting even after you’d played it a few times. That, and the fact that is was balls-out addictive and fun made the original one of the must-have games of 1997.
Diablo 3, of course, is world apart from the original. Computer power has changed immensely since 1997 and with it the quality of the graphics, controllers, and realism.
Diablo 3 is being called ‘the definitive action role-playing game’, which is quite boastful considering the quality of other games being released these days. Players will, as with earlier versions, be given the choice to create a ‘hero’ from 1 of 5 classes that include the usual gang of medieval type characters with their spells, tricks and abilities. The settings are well known to fans of the original, and will lead their avatars through some of the lushest, most graphic-rich settings and worlds ever seen.
Similar to Diablo 2, but with richer settings and characters, the interface will be simple and the action gut-wrenchingly fast-paced. The game takes place on ‘Sanctuary’, a world of dark mystery, fantastical forces and evil at every turn. Players will confront a world that drove its former warriors mad after facing Hell’s armies, and suffice to say that things haven’t gotten any peachier since the last time they were here.
Like most sequels there will be returning characters but fans will be impressed and pleased that they have been completely redesigned with new skills and powers. One things very different is that Diablo 3 will give players the ability to truly customize their hero and create someone unique with powers and abilities never seen in the previous versions.
What will blow players away the most however are the new, outstanding ways that Diablo 3 will allow them to interact in the super-lush gamescape. A new graphics engine and powerful special-effects system will have players blowing away hordes of Hell’s underlings in some truly eye-popping fashion.
Finally, one of the most anticipated features of Diablo 3 it’s available to play at Battle.net, with new features to enhance players’ experience and other extras to make the game even cooler than it already is. So welcome back to hell, Diablo style, with Diablo 3 for Mac and PC.
